My theory is that the early datestamps will be the ones with tape. |

The clear tape was found on some euro cards as well. I haven't seen taped figures myself yet.

Just received a CND #03 Vader on new card.
 
Note the clear top holding the bubble in place on top and sides. Hasbro quality.  |
